Cheese Counter

Our cheese counter at the farm is open from Monday – Thursday 10 am – 3.30pm – visit us to choose a selection of our award winning cheeses along with locally sourced chutneys, oatcakes and honey.

ANSTER CHEESE – DESCRIPTION

A delicate, pale, crumbly cheese – reminiscent of Caerphilly.  Mild, yet complex with a touch of citrus on the finish and cellar-ish, mushroomy, notes next to the natural rind.  Aged 2 – 4 months. 

Awards In 2023 :- Gold at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards; Gold at the Virtual Cheese Awards; Gold at the Royal Highland Show Dairy Championships; 2 stars in the Great Taste Awards.

2024: – Gold at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards; Gold at the Royal Highland Show; Silver at the British Cheese Awards; 1 star in the Great Taste Awards

2025:- Gold for Best Traditional Cheshire style cheese and overall Best Scottish Cheese at the British and Irish Cheese Awards; Gold at the ICDA; Gold at the Virtual Cheese Awards

ST ANDREWS FARMHOUSE CHEDDAR – DESCRIPTION

A rich, buttery cheese with a golden yellow curd.  Crumbly, yet creamy in texture, this cheese is tangy, salty and full of complex character with well balanced acidity and a real depth of flavour that lingers.  A taste of the pastureland. Typically aged for at least 9 months.

Recent awards include Best Dairy Product in the Scotland Food and Drink Awards 2018; Silver in the World Cheese Awards 2018/2019;  3 stars in the Great Taste Awards 2019; Best Cheddar, Best Scottish Cheese, overall Supreme Cheese Champion at The Royal Highland Show Dairy Championships 2021 and Gold at The International Cheese and Dairy Awards 2021 and 2022.

 In 2023 :- Silver at the Virtual Cheese Awards and Bronze at the World Cheese Awards.

2024: – Bronze at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards; Gold (for ‘extra mature’) at the Royal Highland Show; 2 stars in the Great Taste Awards

2025 :- Silver at the ICDA; Gold at the Royal Highland Show, also Best Scottish Cheddar and Best Cheddar Cheese Exhibit; Finalist in the Scotland Food and Drink Awards ‘Dairy Product of the Year’

Bronze at The World Cheese Awards 2025

RED ANSTER CHEESE – DESCRIPTION

The flavour added ‘sister’ cheese to Anster – with added annatto, fresh chives and fresh garlic.  The herbs are added in the ‘make’ and so they ‘pickle’ in the cheese to yield savoury ‘onion’ notes in the finished matured product. 

Recent awards include Silver at the Virtual Cheese Awards in 2023.

2024: – Bronze at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards

SMOKED ANSTER CHEESE – DESCRIPTION

Traditionally smoked over oak chips to give a mild smoky flavour through the crumbly curd.

WHISKY SMOKED ST ANDREWS FARMHOUSE CHEDDAR – DESCRIPTION

Traditionally smoked over oak chips infused with whisky.  The result is an amber coloured curd with a pleasant smoky flavour which does not overpower the cheese.

Awards in 2024: – Silver – British Cheese Awards; Bronze – International Cheese and Dairy Awards

2025:- Class Winner – Smoked Cheese
